The whole of the network surrounding my hosting company was under a DOS attack yesterday - I knew that because I was logged into their forum and also on AIM chat with their support people.
Secondly, there were two sustained attacks from people with "password bots" trying to break into StyxWetWorld yesterday evening. They do this by running automated procedures testing out tens of thousands of usernames, trying to break into the members area. For periods of 20-30 minutes, the server is slowed as it blocks them. In fact, it sends a response to confuse the "bot" by telling it that every username is correct :-). I can tell this attack is happening by looking into the web server error logs. If it's from a consistent IP address, we block the address on the server firewall too.
Hope that's useful? Graham |

In reply to Message (7920.1.1.1) No, not all mine ...
By Graham (UK) - graham@grayhost.net Fri 09/01/04 10:33:27 GMT No, I might HOST all these sites but I do not run them all. But I do run a few of them ... but mainly Styx (with Kev). However, in addition to the GrayHost servers, I do run others and actually host and run over 100 websites for customers. My fulltime job is running my own company design and building websites.
Incidentally, if anyone's been trying to reach any of these sites this evening it's been VERY slow or impossible. The networks around the service have been under attack from a DOS (Denial of Service) attack by people who have nothing better to do but disrupt a few thousand websites for hours. |

Lisa Bubbles -- http://www.lisabubbles.org/ (but is closed until sometime later in 2004)
And then there's ... http://vintagewet.grayhost.net http://www.wetlookunlimited.com http://wetscape.grayhost.net (nothing there at the moment) http://www.sinfullatex.com (not really wetlook, but similar)

Busy servers eh? Always pumping out the excess water! Graham |

By Don - Fri 09/01/04 02:43:22 GMT Can you list the wetlook sites on Grayhost? I'm having trouble relisting my favorites since I changed computers. It's okay if some aren't active at the moment. But I would like to keep track of Veronica and Lisa at least so I can find out when or if they update. Some others I visit all the time but I can't remember them all.
